De verandering is opgemerkt door de site Anandtech. Volgens de site gebruikt Apple in de meest recente MacBook Air 'Flash' SSD-drives van Samsung. De nieuwe SSD-drives zouden ervoor zorgen dat de MacBook air zo'n 20% sneller is. Aanzienlijk verschil dus! De nieuwe drives zijn in Mac OS X herkenbaar aan de hardwarecode SM128C, voorheen was dit TS128C (Toshiba).
"The SM128C performs at up to 260MB/s read and 210MB/s write speeds while the TS128C performs at up to 210MB/s read and 185MB/s write speeds. The SM128C supports Native Command Queuing (NCQ) and the TS128C doesn’t.
